Sky poker

Wednesday night is poker night at our local pub. For a long time I’ve been the only Poker Chick there, and made the most of it by calling all the suits by other names (if you’re dying to know, in my book: softs are hearts; clubs are broccolis; shinies are diamonds; and spades are bushes), smiling and batting my eyelids, and asking if it’s good if my cards are all the same colour. You see the kind of thing!

Now I’m not the only Poker Gal though, so it just won’t wash anymore. Actually I’ve picked up the game quite well, so I keep my poker face, and from time to time I come in the top 5 of our league. The Sky Poker pub league isn’t playing for money, I hasten to add, I spend £5: get two games and dinner – a good night out.

I also play on-line, facebook mainly but also Sky Poker, again not for money but on freerolls. I have had some luck with this, but the most annoying thing is when I hit a really fantastic draw (like the quad aces below) and no-one seems to notice, or congratulate me, on a really good hand!

I would certainly recommend poker (Texas Hold’Em) as a hobby, it’s a bit like doing the crossword for your brain, but social too. What more could you ask?
